Have you ever wondered how those professional window washers move so fast with the squeegee, and the windows turn out perfect? Well, there really are some tricks to it that are simple to learn, and once you do, dare I say it, you may even enjoy washing windows? It is possible!

The first trick is to invest in a good squeegee. Theyaren’t expensive and they are worth every cent! Those $1.99 ones just will not do. A professional squeegee has a very soft, rubber blade with no imperfections in it. You can also get extra rubber blades and simply replace
those when they wears out. There are probably many sources to get one, but a source I like is The Clean Team. http://www.TheCleanTeam.com.

Secondly, do your windows on a cool, or cloudy day. If you have to do it in the sun, do it in the morning. What you want to avoid here is heat. Heat works against you.

Get a bucket of lukewarm water (not hot), and add 2-3 tablespoons of plain ammonia. Use a sponge that has a white scrubber on the other side. Wet your window with the sponge side, then flip to the white scrub pad side, and scrub the window. You’ll be able to “feel”
when it’s clean. You’ll feel rough patches, etc when it’s still not clean. This is a step most people fail at, if the window simply isn’t clean, it’s going to look cloudy when done. Scrub well.

You’ll also need lots of clean, white cotton
rags towels/cleaning cloths. Diapers work great here. Dry by hand a 1-inch strip at the top of the window. The trick for no streaks with the squeegee is placing the dry rubber blade on a dry window.

Take the squeegee now and place it at the top of the window in that 1-inch dry strip. Pull down smoothly. Dry your squeegee blade with between each sweep. Finish window, if need be do one last sweep left to right at the bottom of the window.

Take a dry, clean cloth and run with your finger down each window side and across the bottom to clean and dry the edges. They should look perfect! And you’ll feel great having clean windows.

Attractive windows and doors can make a plain house stand out from the crowd, moving beyond the merely ordinary. So when it is time for replacement windows and doors, the increasingly popular upvc products are definitely a viable alternative for your home improvements.

Double glazing upvc windows are simply double glass windows, if you are wondering. And what makes upvc windows and doors so great is that they are excellent insulators, as opposed to traditional windows and doors. These glazed panels are formed by placing two panes of glass several millimeters apart. This creates a pocket between the panes that traps air and forms a highly efficient insulating layer in windows and doors.

Replacing your standard windows and doors with double glazing upvc windows and doors can cut your heat loss in half and noticeably trim your monthly utility bills. And as well being efficient energy wise, these attractive replacement windows and doors also help to discourage crime. Doors and windows are a common entry point for burglars/intruders, but double glazing upvc units add security in their strength, durability, and multi-point locking system.

It has been proven that 60% of heat loss from homes is through traditional windows and doors. Homeowners who have implemented double glazing as a part of their remodeling strategy can usually expect a 10-12% decrease in their monthly utility bill. Replacing your doors and windows with double glazing will also reduce outside noise pollution.

Traditional wood framed windows and doors are susceptible to moisture induced rot and require regular maintenance, whereas upvc windows are extremely low maintenance, durable, and require little cleaning.

One of the drawbacks in the minds of those who are considering upvc double glazing, though, is that they are not nearly as attractive as their wooden counterparts. Most people think of the standard white upvc windows and doors when making their comparison. However, there are wide array of options available to those considering double glazing windows and doors for home improvements.

In addition to upvc, aluminum and hardwood frames are also available for double glazing. Upvc windows and doors also are also available in a wide array of colors, styles, and sizes, so you are not limited to basic white. Most good double glazing companies will give you a multiple choice of finishes for your replacement windows and doors.

If you are considering upvc windows strictly for thermal or noise insulation, another option for you may be secondary double glazing. Secondary double glazing is when another window is fitted internally against the main window. This home improvement option might also work well for those who are on a budget and cannot afford new upvc windows and doors.

Overall, upvc double glazing windows and doors are an attractive and efficient choice for those considering a minor remodel to improve the look of their homes. Choosing upvc windows not only improves the look of a dated home, but also cuts down on maintenance and utility bills. So upvc windows and doors are definitely worth the consideration for your remodeling and home improvements project.

The earliest type of double glazing was called Secondary Glazing and in actual fact consisted of a second sheet of glass, with (usually) an aluminium strip fitted to it`s outer perimeter that was screwed to the inside of an existing window frame. This had the effect of trapping a “block” of air between two sheets of glass i.e. DOUBLE GLAZING. This system had many drawbacks and these consisted of :-

Mould would build up on the inside of the glass.

Moisture would condense between the sheets of glass

The system was very unsightly and looked as if it had been added as an afterthought; and in many cases it had!

In the case of large picture widows it was very cumbersome to remove for cleaning and because of the weight involved; quite hazardous

However in spite of all these problems many homes were converted and some measure of heat insulation was achieved.

Secondary glazing was carried on for 3 or 4 years but was eventually replaced by SEALED UNIT double glazing.

If we start off with the simplest definition of a sealed unit double glazing unit as being a structure to fit in a window frame that has two sheets of glass separated by spacer devices that has sufficient integrity to be physically transported and placed in position.

The biggest problem facing a manufacturer of double glazed units was finding a material that could seal the edge of a double glazing unit against moisture vapour transmission , that was sufficiently thixotropic to be able to be forced into a space and would stay there, that would solidify in a short time so the unit could be moved and that was relatively low cost and easily available and that would stick to glass!

This is quite a tall order, however a small double glazing company in Hull produced a relatively novel new compound which was a building sealant based on an epoxy polysulphide formulation but they did not realise the value of their discovery. They shelved the project and it was only by chance that it came to light some months later.

Now the way was clear and before long companies from Harwich to Hull, from London to Lowestoft and all over the United Kingdom were making double glazed units with epoxy polysulphide sealants in the periphery. This was the start of a major new industry in the British Isles.

Heat can only be transmitted by three distinct physical methods, Conduction, Convection and Radiation. As far as double glazing is concerned the only methods that are applicable are Convection and Conduction.

Conduction may be defined in the classical physical sense as the ability of a material to transmit heat a distance from an area of high temperature to one of a lower one. Due to the Laws of Physics it is impossible to transfer heat up a heat gradient. Therefore it is self defeating in attempting to discuss the situation. In principle all materials can conduct heat to a greater or lesser degree, metal for instance mostly have high rates of conduction, textiles, gases, feathers etc have low rates. To quote a phrase it all a matter of degree!

Transmission of heat by Convection is a completely different method of heat transfer and consists of the heat contacting a mobile fluid, by definition this fluid can move and it takes its heat with it, a good example of this is a radiator in a car, the combustion sequence in a car engine generates heat, this heat is passed on to the water surrounding the cylinders and this water is then pumped to the radiator. A stream of cold air is blown over the tubes carrying the water and the heat is removed. The cooled water is then pumped back to the cylinders and the whole process is repeated.

Radiation cannot be considered since this would entail reflective techniques such as aluminium film mirrors and since this would also reflect light it would be absolutely self defeating in windows!

Air and most gases are very poor at conducting heat therefore if one had an air gap between two surfaces, this in fact would be a deterrent to heat transfer between two surfaces. Examples of such structures would be cavity walls in a building, two pair of curtains covering window cavities, as a matter of fact this was the technique used in the 10th. Century for castles and such like types of property.

It was found that if two pairs of curtains were hung in front of a “ hole in a wall” then they could have vision for shooting arrows but once the curtains were back in place the place would remain relatively warm. They were unable to explain why it worked but it did! Hence they did it.

A more modern method would be to have two sheets of glass with an air gap in between.

As can be seen, the reduction in heat loss by Conduction is very much reduced but the problem of Convection is remaining and this can be tackled by using the following techniques:-

Take a sheet of glass, insert spacing bars around all perimeter sides, put a second sheet of glass of the same dimensions on top of the spacing bars and adhere the top sheet of glass to the bottom sheet. You have now in effect a sandwich with a layer of still air at its core, conduction will be very much reduced and convection will be eliminated as the trapped air cannot escape.

For the best in Hull Double Glazing

Investing in replacement double glazing Hull for your home can be expensive – there are the actual windows to pay for and then the cost of hiring a company to fit them. You need to ensure that you choose the right style of windows to complement your property as well as choosing the most practical type to ensure that they will last for a number of years. Check out the tips below to make sure that your new window selection and installation process is a smooth one…

Make sure that you choose a style that matches your property and enhances the overall look of your home. Check out similar properties in your area to assess what styles and which type of material works well and complements the exterior of your home. Ensure the windows have an adequate number of openings. Simpler designs with fewer openings are less expensive and whilst the price tag may be tempting, badly designed windows can actually lower the value of a property and buyers can even negotiate a reduced price for a property on the basis of this.

You may need to double check that you don’t need to apply for planning permission to fit your new windows. Generally it’s only listed buildings that require planning permission but if you are installing new windows in a conversion or extension for example then you might need to double check that the design and type of glass has the planning authority seal of approval, especially if you are overlooking neighbours.

Consider investing in double glazed windows if you want to replace your old timber windows. Double glazing will reduce heat loss through your windows which will help you save money on your heating bills and they also provide good sound insulation. If you live on a busy road, near train tracks or on a major bus route then installing double glazing can make a real difference. If you do opt for double glazed replacement windows then make sure that you check what types of locks and security features they come with. Most modern ones will come with a multi-point locking system as standard but it may be possible to get an upgrade for a minimal charge or for free.

Always contact at least three companies for quotes when choosing a company to carry out the installation. If someone you know has recently had their windows replaced and they were happy with the service then ask them for the company’s details as they may be worth contacting to use for your windows. When you contact the companies make sure that you ask to see examples of their work. If a company has a showroom then visit it and check out the work there. Smaller companies may not have a showroom so you could always ask them if they have any case studies or referrals that you can contact.

Just follow the simple tips above so that you receive the best windows and installation service for your budget.

If your home has become progressively less efficient energy wise, and you have decided that perhaps replacing your doors and windows could help, then you may be on the right track. Before getting started though, be sure to do your research on double glazing and upvc replacement windows and doors, as these increasingly popular home improvement jobs are extremely efficient as well as attractive. And if in the end you decide on double glazing, there are a few things that you should keep in mind.

Double glazing is such an attractive alternative for many who are replacing windows and doors because it is a model of efficiency. It is a system in which two panes of glass are placed several millimeters apart in order to form the window. In this way, air is trapped and an insulating layer is formed. Replacing your standard windows and doors with double glazing upvc windows and doors can possibly cut your heat loss in half. They also help decrease noise from outside and practically eliminate internal condensation.

Before purchasing double glazing, it is crucial to obtain a number of quotes from different providers as competition is fierce in the industry. The more quotes that you obtain the better, but you should try for at least four qualified quotes. For each of the double glazing companies that you are considering, you should be able to review a range of double glazing windows and doors either in their showroom or on their website. Visiting the website of companies is a good way to get a feel for the products you are considering before actually visiting the showroom and it saves you time also.

When you are researching companies that offer double glazing, a few things to keep in mind are: 1) if you are allowed to choose form a full range of products or just a few styles, 2) if the company can provide you with a listing of satisfied customers in the area, 3) if a code of practice covers the installers, 4) if the work is guaranteed, and any other pertinent questions you may have. If the company satisfactorily addresses your concerns, then you can relatively safely request a quote for your replacement windows and doors.

Once you have decided which company you will be choosing for your double glazing, then it imperative that you receive a contract for the work. Be sure that your contract addresses the price for the double glazing as well as any fees for additional work. There should also be a full detailed description of what work is included in the contract, including any extras. It should also detail when the double glazing installation will start and how the work will proceed to completion.

Before your windows and doors are replaced, be sure that you are aware of the payment options and terms for double glazing. Some typical options include financing and payment in stages. You should also understand what types of fees are levied for late payments. When you accept a quote, the double glazing company will typically require a deposit of 20-30% of the total price. But if you are able, try to negotiate for no deposit. This will help you in the event that the company does not perform the work as stated, or goes out of business.

Essentially, when replacing your windows and doors with double glazing, you should exercise the same caution that you would for any other large purchase. By performing adequate research on several double glazing companies, you will most likely find yourself satisfied with the end result.

For almost 50 years double glazing has been the top-selling and most highly desirable form of home improvement. Why is it that double glazing Hull has been so successful? Why do so many homeowners see double glazing as an almost mandatory form of home improvement?

We shall explore some of these reasons below.Primary double glazing is about comfort. Double glazing can be used to maintain a particular thermal environment, most people presume that double glazing simply helps to contain heat, but the truth is that it will also help to keep a home cool during hot weather. It reduces the amount of heat which is transferred either into or out of the property through the windows; this is facilitated by the vastly reduced convection properties of double glazing over conventional glazing. A by product of this additional comfort is a vastly reduced heating or cooling overhead. Put simply, a double glazed home will cost less to heat or cool than a traditionally glazed property.

Although the thermal features are usually considered to be the primary benefit to be had by installing this form of window fixture, there is a further property of double glazing which can also add greatly to the comfort of your home. Because of the way in which double glazing is manufactured, using two thin sheets of glass to sandwich a small pocket of air, double glazed windows form an exceptionally effective acoustic damper which is ideal for the home and conservatories. For properties which are located within a noisy environment, installing it will reduce noise pollution considerably.

As we can clearly see there are some excellent benefits to be had by homeowners who choose to install double glazing in their property. It provides a much more stable thermal environment, reduced noise pollution, and facilitates lower heating costs and thus reduced utility bills. Additionally, we need to consider the fact that adding double glazing to the property is likely to increase the equity of the property considerably.

Modern double glazing can be constructed from aluminium, wood or UPVC, and is available to fit almost any window size. It can be fitted relatively quickly, as the old window frame is simply removed and replaced with a new double glazed alternative. Many companies also offer custom made solutions, designed to facilitate the double glazing of older or more idiosyncratic properties which do not adhere to standardised window sizes.

All in all, fitting double glazing is an excellent way to increase the enjoyment of your home, provide a higher level of comfort, and increase the value of the property at the same time. The double glazing market has matured significantly over the last 50 years, and current double glazing techniques have proven to be cost-effective and functional. Any homeowner wishing to find a way to add to the value of their property and improve their living experience should consider the installation of double glazing to be top of the list of viable home improvements.

In today’s housing market the difference between making a successful sale at a good price and failing to attract a single offer can often rely on very small changes to the property in question. If you are looking to add value to your existing home as well as improve the quality of the living space then custom glazing products such as conservatories and orangeries are a tried and tested home improvement, one which will provide added value to your home, whilst making it more attractive to potential buyers in the future.

One of the well constructed conservatories or orangeries available for purchase on-line will add a dynamic living space to your home, one which will give a taste of nature throughout the year. What could be more relaxing than taking advantage of that rare day of winter sun whilst sitting within the comfort of your own conservatory? Most conservatories feature patio doors, this means that you will be able to open up your home to let in fresh summer air. The most cost effective type of patio doors are usually uPVC French doors, good quality uPVC doors can last for decades, they are easy to clean and are almost maintenance free.

Why stop at adding a conservatory to your property? You could freshen up your entire home replacing all of the old doors with uPVC doors including replacing your old patio doors with uPVC French doors. The will enable you to maintain the style of doors throughout your home when you choose one of the excellent conservatories that can be found on-line.

Many people consider purchasing uPVC doors through a website to be a problem, as many older homes will have non-standard door sizes. This is simply not true, most good on-line suppliers of uPVC doors will be happy to make custom sizes to order.

There are two major advantages to buying glazing products such as orangeries and patio doors on-line. The first benefit is in the form of cost, most on-line retailers of products such as uPVC doors will maintain a much keener price structure than a high street DIY store. Additionally, there will be a far greater range of products available for you to view within their on-line catalogue. Many high street style establishments are forced to carry a limited stock range, due to the fact they have to invest heavily in purchasing stock.

On-line retailers seldom carry a high stock level of any product, preferring to operate a just in time ordering system, whereby they order in stock as it is sold to customers. For items such as uPVC doors where delivery timeframe is seldom an issue this is a great way to grab yourself some major savings. Obviously if you are ordering custom made uPCV French doors or any other form of tailor made glazing product the actual item cannot be manufactured until after you place the order, this entirely negates the lead time issue. All in all, purchasing on-line is a great way to procure top rate conservatories, orangeries, uPVC French doors, patio doors and uPVC doors.
